Report of the event
The department of English, LISSAH successfully organised three days webinar series titled Life in Pandemic Times: Narrative of Struggle and Survival from July 18, 2020, to July 20, 2020. The webinar began on 18 July at 9:00 am with a welcome note by Mr Balasubramniam, head and assistant professor of the English department. Dr Savio James V associate professor of the English department gave a concept note of the webinar followed by a presidential address by Dr Benny Joseph principal of LISSAH. The webinar was inaugurated with an inaugural address by the honourable director of LISSAH Rev. Fr. Jose Melettukochiyil CST.
The first plenary session was initiated by Dr Premanand M E, retired HOD of English, Malabar Christian College, on the subject Co-relating Digital Learning Spaces which was followed by an interactive session. Thereafter Anjaly Sojan, Aneetta Sara Thankachan and Erik Jomy Mathai presented a paper. The second plenary session was on Post COVID Education- Importance of English Language directed by Ms Liu Lee Yee, Teacher Trainer, IELT Bangalore. After the session of observation and discussion, the first day of the webinar was concluded.
The second day of the webinar on 19 July 2020 commenced with a welcome note by Mr Subin Varghese, assistant professor of the department of English and the webinar coordinator. The first plenary session of the day was dealt by Dr C K Ahammed retired professor Farook college, at present English department head at Baithul Issah Arts and Science college Narikkuni, on the subject Importance of Literature in Pandemic Times. A paper was presented by Mithra S after a discussion. The second plenary session was handled by Mr Rahim Vadakkekara, trainer at Dubai Business School on the subject Pandemic and Society. Thereafter Gayatri P presented a paper. After a discussion and vote of thanks by Nimisha George assistant professor of the English department, the second day of the webinar came to rest.
The third day of the webinar on 20 July 2020 began with a welcome note by Ms Archana Baby, assistant professor of the department of English, LISSAH. The plenary session was initiated by Dr Arya Gopi assistant professor, department of English, Zamoorins Guruvayoorappan College on the subject Pandemic as a Simulacrum of Human Voids. Succeeding which Srivarshini V, C Sanjana Gupta, Rishika Rachana and Mr Muhammed Juraij presented their papers. The webinar came to an end at 1:00 pm after an interactive session and a vote of thanks by Amrutha S Babu assistant professor of the English department.
Overall, with the assistance of all the faculties, the three days webinar was a success by over 179 registrations and an average of 86 participants per day.
